Aman Gupta's Unprecedented Move on Shark Tank India 3 Leaves Entrepreneurs Stunned
In a dramatic turn of events on the latest episode of Shark Tank India 3, Aman Gupta, co-founder and CMO of boAt, made headlines by tearing up a cheque after initially extending an offer to the entrepreneurial brothers, Anand Nahar and Amrit. The episode streamed on Sony LIV, showcased the brothers pitching their fast-food brand Zorko, seeking Rs 1.5 crore for one percent equity.
Initially, the sharks, including Aman Gupta and Ritesh Agarwal of OYO Rooms, showed interest by proposing a combined offer of Rs 20 lakh for one percent equity and a Rs 1.3 crore debt at 10 percent interest over three years. However, negotiations hit a roadblock when the brothers counter-offered, requesting 100 hours of advisory time in addition to the financial terms.
Aman Gupta expressed his inability to commit to such extensive advisory hours, emphasizing his genuine desire to support the brothers without making unrealistic promises. Ritesh Agarwal, while willing to commit 20 hours, stressed the importance of trusting Aman Gupta’s less quantifiable commitment.
As the brothers persisted in their demand for committed advisory time, frustration mounted. Feeling cornered, Aman Gupta tore up the cheque and gracefully backed out of the deal with a heartfelt “Bhai tu mujhe maaf kar” (Brother, forgive me), indicating his regret and seeking forgiveness from the entrepreneurs.
Ritesh Agarwal also withdrew his offer, citing the brothers’ indecisiveness as the primary reason. Agarwal stated, “I don’t have a problem committing hours; you can take 20 hours of commitment from me, but from Aman’s side, you have to put your trust and believe him.”
This captivating incident quickly captured attention, with the video posted on the official YouTube channel of Shark Tank India garnering nearly a million views.
